    Who’s Teaching Which Languages Online? A Report Based on National Surveys

    This paper describes findings from recent national surveys on online language education (OLE) within a broader context of national surveys of post-secondary online education and  world language enrollments. The surveys discussed and compared are the 2012 CARLA Survey by Johnshoy and BOLDD Surveys by Murphy-Judy (2014 & 2015). The findings reported here include: types and sizes of institutions; demographics of the teaching corps (CARLA data only); and, the mix of languages and levels. This work aims to provide useful information on online language education as it emerges as an important field in world language teaching and learning in the 21st century

    Software plays an increasingly larger role in all aspects of NASA's science missions. This has been extended to the identification, management and control of faults which affect safety-critical functions and by default, the overall success of the mission. Traditionally, the analysis of fault identification, management and control are hardware based. Due to the increasing complexity of system, there has been a corresponding increase in the complexity in fault management software. The NASA Independent Validation & Verification (IV&V) program is creating processes and procedures to identify, and incorporate safety-critical software requirements along with corresponding software faults so that potential hazards may be mitigated. This Specific to Generic ... A Case for Reuse paper describes the phases of a dependability and safety study which identifies a new, process to create a foundation for reusable assets. These assets support the identification and management of specific software faults and, their transformation from specific to generic software faults. This approach also has applications to other systems outside of the NASA environment. This paper addresses how a mission specific dependability and safety case is being transformed to a generic dependability and safety case which can be reused for any type of space mission with an emphasis on software fault conditions

    Creating Technology-enhanced Practice: A University-Home Care-Corporate Alliance

    Insuring full benefit of consumer health informatics innovations requires integrating the technology into nursing practice, yet many valuable innovations are developed in research projects and never reach full integration. To avoid this outcome, a team of researchers partnered with a home care agency’s staff and patients and their corporate parent’s Information Systems and Research group to create a Technology-Enhanced Practice (TEP) designed to enhance care of home bound patients and their family care givers. The technology core of TEP, the HeartCare2 web site, was built in a collaborative process and deployed within the existing patient portal of the clinical partner.     Digital video is being applied to teacher training, development, and evaluation. This chapter evokes theories and practices of performance observation and improvement. It demonstrates facilitative media used in the design and implementation of a current interinstitutional project by the authors. Simultaneously, the implications of teaching evaluation techniques caught in the lens of digital observation technologies lead to considerations of their personal and social impact on the field of world language teacher training and professional development in the 21st Century. A more communal and non-hierarchical approach, called peer coaching, is advanced with a value-added digital video and e-community twist

    With the full implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the impending physician and nursing shortage, health professional students will increasingly find themselves working together in teams to care for patients. Education at the undergraduate level is necessary for students to perform effectively in teams as practicing clinicians. We describe our approach to designing curriculum for health professional students, namely using educational conceptual frameworks such as Kotter’s 8-step Change Model, Kern’s 6-step approach to designing curriculum, and Miller’s pyramid. This approach is adaptable and transferable to other health professional schools to aid in interprofessional curriculum development
